How is my piece mounted?

The kind of mounting we use depends on the nature of your art and your personal preferences. Our framers will inspect your piece when it arrives to ensure proper mounting.  The great thing about custom framing is that we can design and mount your frame pretty much to your exact specifications!

Our most common mounting techniques include:

  • Dry Mounting, which involves adhering your piece to a foam board backing in a press to achieve a smooth, crisp look. The process is reversible and our most common mount type for posters, prints, and photographs.
  • Hinge Mounting, which involves lightly taping the corners of your piece to secure it inside the frame. This is the most common for original documents and delicate parchment.
  • Stitchy Pin and Sew Floating, which are processes for mounting textiles that involve lightly stitching your piece to a mat and are common for jerseys, scarves, and cross stitches.
  • Float mounting, which involves mounting the art above the mat, allowing the edges to be displayed in full for a lovely floating effect.

These are just a few of our most common mount styles, so if you have another vision in mind, please add it to Special Instructions at checkout. and we'll do our best to make your piece a reality.
